Market America advertises itself as the "nation's preeminent advocate and implementer of One-to-One Marketing and Mass Customization". They utilize a system of independent distributors and Unfranchise owners… This is a copyrighted term used by the company to help describe their system that combines franchising with direct sales to promote the duplication of independent business success. It all sounds very different from a person's usual experience with network marketing and independent distributorships.
Market America was founded in April of 1992, and is based out of Greensboro, North Carolina. As an Unfranchise owner, you are eligible to receive 5%-15% discounts depending on your purchase and repeat purchase activity. You then manage an organization of independent Market America Unfranchise owners who service their Preferred Customers. The company promotes the business as a "mall without walls", and that's basically what it is. The products offered on the site range widely to health and nutrition, auto care, telecommunications, and web services. They work with many other big name companies and they advertise their products on their site with direct links to them. Anything a Preferred Customer buys on the site is a sale that the distributor gets credit for and earns a commission.
The National Meeting, Training and Seminar System (NMTSS) of the company provides all independent Unfranchise owners with a standardized and comprehensive business introduction which includes a complete training and support system. There are meetings which are held quarterly which vary from place to place and are used for training. Selling success and leadership are rewarded within Market America and they have a Management Compensation Plan (MCP).
